Proverbs 18:22  Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

G. Christian Weiss wrote, "When we pray, we are talking to God. When we read the Word, God is talking to us. Thus our fellowship with God is cultivated when we spend time praying and searching His Word."

READING GOD'S WORD

Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

We must hide God's Word in our heart. Christians read many books but the most neglected book many times is the Bible itself. Unfortunately, the Bible is not really taught much nowadays. A couple of quick verses and that's about it. Teaching the Word is lacking within the Body of Christ today. There are many false teachers who delve into the Bible and teach but their teaching is erroneous so what does it profit?  Yet many teachers who have the correct biblical doctrine do not teach the Word and get into doctrine with their congregations. It is very sad indeed. How does one fellowship with God? Through prayer and by reading the Bible. Are Christians doing that today? Sadly, the answer is no.

Prayer is neglected and reading God's Word is neglected. So how can one be an effective Christian wife if she does not pray or read God's Holy Word? If we are
not close to God, then how can we possibly be close to one another? How can we
be godly wives if we do not fellowship with the Lord? The answer is that it is impossible. We must fellowship with God in order to have any kind of true relationship with others. God speaks to us through His Word. When we read the Bible, we learn from God the important truths that He wants to teach us.

Psalm 119:158
I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they
kept not thy word.

I have observed many trends within the Christian world. One of the latest trends
is message boards and forums. Now, there is nothing wrong with Christian
message boards and many of them are very edifying but for some Christians, message forums have become an addiction of sorts. They spend all day chatting with others and the chats are not always godly conversation. In fact many times, the dialogue is just plain pointless and silly. You would think that people would
tire of an hour of "LOL"s and "welcome" so and so. Nothing really is said and no topic is ever fully discussed. Our words should have meaning. The Bible says to keep our words few. There is nothing wrong with Christian fellowship over the internet and "bible questions and answers" just as long as it does not interfere with our home life and our relationship with Christ Jesus.

If message boards are keeping you from reading God's Word and praying everyday, then the message boards have to decrease and Christ Jesus must increase. In the quiet times of our life, God can speak to our hearts and help us to become overcomers.

I used to read and post in a women's fundamental Baptist message board (I will leave it nameless) a couple of months ago. In the beginning, the women who
posted were godly women and then there came in many unsaved who would
post their ideas. I had read one topic started by a catholic which grieved
me so much that I have not posted nor visited this site for months now. When
one posts messages on the
"virgin" Mary and how they pray to her for strength (which is NOWHERE to be found in Scripture) and other Baptists write back, "thank you for sharing" and "I never thought of that", something is desperately wrong with this picture.

If we are fundamental Baptists, bible believing Christians, then we should not
be condoning such unbiblical posts on a Baptist message board. Moderators
should be removing those things which are contrary to God's Word. Some have asked me if I would start a women's message board where those of us who are in one accord can fellowship. I would have to prayerfully consider it and if we did have one on the Women's Corner, it would be password protected and closely guarded against false doctrines and new age ideas. That requires time which I do not have at the moment. The others who help me with the Women's Corner do
not have the time either but it remains an idea that could happen, if the Lord
places it upon our hearts to do so. We have wonderful godly ladies who write to our ministry and it would be nice to get all of you together for fellowship.

Getting back to the topic of reading God's Word. We are to learn and study the
Word of God. Not only will reading God's Word help us to have fellowship with
Him but it will also prevent us from sinning. It will keep our hearts in check and memorizing bible verses will help us in our Christian witness. How can you win others to Christ Jesus if you do not know what the Bible says? Knowing
Scriptures helps equip us to be great soul winners and better wives and mothers.

Eph 3:19
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Sometimes, there just is not enough time in the day to sit and read God's Word
but we must make time. There should be a quiet time of reading God's Word
alone and then there should be a family time where everyone gets together--
even if it is for 10 minutes-- with no other distractions-- and read God's Word together and discuss what the Lord is saying through His Word. You will find
that as the family gets together to read God's Word-- the 10 minutes will increase
to 30 minutes and so on. There should be a hunger for God's Word. Many Christians feel that because they go to church, they do not need to read the Bible during the week. This is like saying, "Well, I only eat on Sundays and Wednesday nights...the rest of the week, I starve myself and become weak..."

Knowing God's Word will prevent us from falling prey to false doctrines. What does the Bible say? Know what the Bible says. Read it. Teach it to your children. Get your husband involved in reading God's Word. Remind him to read His Bible. Knowing what the Bible says is your first line of defense against false doctrine.

Mark 12:24
And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

LET US NOT BE IGNORANT OF THE SCRIPTURES

A godly wife is one who desires to know Jesus more. Being in tune with God's
will for our lives, we can better help and encourage our husbands to be the men of God that they should be. It's only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we can become all that God would want us to be. In our own strength, we cannot be the wife of Proverbs 31. It's only by submitting to God that we can then submit to our own husbands. As we grow in Christ Jesus, we can learn the things that apart from Him, we would never learn. By reading God's Word, we find that love is not a word but a deed.

1John 3:18
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
